In Kyrgyzstan, the most prone to anemia children in the first years of life and women of childbearing age, especially during pregnancy. The basic cause of this disease is a low iron content in the daily diet.
Today, more than 50% of children up to 2 years revealed anemia, lack of vitamin A in the blood serum - in 19%, and low growth - at 11%.
"All of these diseases are due to the lack of children's access to foods that contain the necessary nutrients. And it is not only because the family has no money for such a meal, but also because of the low awareness of mothers about nutrition," - said the director of the National Center for Maternal and Child Kamchybek Uzakbaev.
Reduction of anemia in 2010, started with the support of UNICEF, the Swiss Red Cross and the "Soros-Kyrgyzstan" with a program to enrich the children's home food vitamin and mineral supplement "Gulazyk." It is an additive powder, which consists of iron, zinc, folic acid and vitamins A and C, to produce it in India. Currently "Gulazyk" get 227,034 children aged 6-24 months. An important feature of the program is the same integrated approach to health and development.
